Is plastic Surgery a trend or a must in the Korean society?

We have heard all about the amazing effects of plastic surgery and also the shocking results of the dodgy ones resulted in worst off than before. But the main question is whether if plastic surgery is meant to beautify a person or is it purely to gain fame from others?
This is a medical invention of where it is to correct or to restore back to its original form or function of the part of the body. There are different categories of plastic surgery that is not necessarily cosmetic procedures- it can be reconstructive surgery, microsurgery, burns...etc

Reconstructive surgery is meant more for patients who suffered traumatic injuries such as accidents, acid splash, disfiguration to the parts of the face or body, infections, cancer...etc.
But cosmetic surgery has been a consistent trend among celebrities in Hollywood and Asia. Korea is famous for its natural cosmetic procedures that resulted many fans and ordinary women who are following the trend. Majority women and some men have undergone blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), lips enhancement, laser skin resurfacing, liposuction (tummy tuck), rhinoplasty (nose surgery) and breast augmentations (boob implants).

I remembered watching some Korean programs online on some women who look hidous or disfigured in a way... there were plastic and reconstructive surgeons who offered to beautify them and they turned out to be so beautiful/handsome. (of course with make-up and hair styling). It is indeed shocking and to see someone 'reborn'. And we wouldn't guarantee in future if this person has kids- will their kids turn out to be so beautiful OR will they be inheriting the original features of their parents?

Most Korean celebrities have admitted they have some touch-up done to their nose, eyes or face and I would salute them for being so honest to the public. However netizens and the public started to criticise the idols/actors for undergoing these surgery. In entertainment business, it is a different world than what we are in right now. We sit behind the PC at our desk 8 hours fiddling paperwork and off we head straight home. However celebrities either perform on stage or film in front of cameras more than 8 hours a day. Their career depends on the looks and figure. I can purely understand the urge to go under the knife and some touch-up from the doctors. Some people have inferiority complex and feel it's necessary to look prettier/ more handsome for the fans and for themselves. And some entertainment agencies do pressure the idols to undergo these procedures before they debut.

When netizens come down with harsh comments and critics, I feel that's awful and how hurtful it must be for the actors/actresses to read these online. After all it's their own face and not ours...and who are we to judge them? If they are satisfied with their looks- so be it.

Take an example- actress Park Min Young is so beautiful after having done her eyes and nose. She is popular as ever and looks natural too. Even Shinhwa group members have undergone PS for eyes and nose- such as Hyesung and Dong Wan. And people were commenting about Fly To The Sky's Hwanhee having done his nose and eyes. he is still handsome with his gorgeous voice. I root for him! LOL!

However plastic surgery can be seriously addictive that some have 'overdone' to their faces and body that it turns out so disastrous and fake. And we've seen some Korean celebrities have done too much on their face that they look so weird and even worst off than before!
For some who have seriously overdone PS would be actress Lee Da Hae (she was beautiful in My Girl) but her nose was too sharp in Hotel King. The worst off would be actress Seo Woo where her lips and nose just looks so fake....oh dear!

We as fans hope the celebrities won't overdo PS to the extent it becomes horrendous.
As long as they do a bit of touch-up and still look natural, I don't care or mind at all.
Let's not be hypocrite, after all who doesn't want to see beautiful actresses and handsome actors? For me, I've gone through laser skin resurfacing couple of times and it doesn't bother me at all. But honestly if I were to live in South Korea, I might have done a nose job! Haha! It's quite tempting...
