South Korea remembers their fallen heroes in the recent 61st Memorial Day held on 6th June 2016 at Dongjak Seoul National Cemetery in Seoul.
Among the guests of honor were President Park Geun Hye and her entourage, senior citizens, children, the public and war veterans. Actor Lee Seo Jin was invited to do the morning recital in the memory of the fallen heroes. Also female vocalist Gummy was among the performers to sing with the children's choir. There were also dances and performers in the morning event.
Memorial Day is something like what we observe in Australia- Anzac Day (Lest We Forget)
We take a moment to reflect and remember those who fought bravely for our country.
Every year 6th of June marks the Memorial Day in South Korea and it has been very meaningful for all the citizens of the country. And for those who remember the invasion of Japanese soldiers into the country in 1910.
The fight for independence was in 1919 but happiness was not long for all. Then the horror began when Korean War 1945 started as the North invaded the South. Many soldiers fought and died while citizens suffer for a period of time. But as what we can see today the South is many times better than the North in terms of economy, culture and wealth.
Today South Korea is still heavily guarded by army and soldiers from UN including America.
The North is always eyeing on the South and everyone has to be on their toes alert.
There were several events where the North opened fire at the South's boats, sinking its warship at Cheonan. These were some of the ongoing current events between the borders.
As what people always say- what we have and lived today in peace and wealth is what we have owed- big thanks to the soldiers/diggers (as what we call in Australia) who have sacrificed and fought for their motherland. 단결!
