Penang Murals Heritage Trail

Last year when I flew back to Penang for my yearly visit, my brother took me to the main murals trail started by the artist Ernest Zacheric. He is one of the original artists who asked for the permissiong from the Penang State Government to paint murals on some old rusty looking buildings.
From there, his popularity and murals exploded into fame and everyone is into it. From young kids to adults and people all over the states of Malaysia visited Penang are sure to pay homage to the famous murals along Armenian Street which is one of the heritage areas.

One of the famous murals from Ernest is the 2 children on a bicycle which caught the attention of media. Even the Chief Minister of Penang acknowledges his art work and gave him a special place in Penang. I had the honour to visit the mural and see it for myself.

There were more and more local artists from art schools who showed their keen interest in public murals. They painted more murals and metal sculptures around the town. One of my favourites has got to be the magicians on the local shop who operates a bicycle rentals and the lion dance on the walls. They were beautifully painted and looked alive.

As for animal lovers- do not forget the big mural of Skippy. No, he's not a Roo-roo (Kangaroo)made famous from the TV show Skippy in Australia. Skippy mural is actually a large orange cat painted by a local artist for publicity on
stray and homeless cats. For one thing I hate about this country is there were too many strays and litters everywhere.
