The New Era of Nation's Producers via voting.

We have recently heard the word- nation's producer. Does that mean there is a nation PD who decides on filming or what not....tc? What is actually the nation's producer? Literally it just means the citizens or the open public voting for the survival programs held by the TV stations. 

MNet's Produce 101: Season 1 and Season 2 has attracted so much attention and produced the new syndrome when they went scouting out 101 trainees from various agencies for the public to vote and formed their desired idol group. Produce 101 pays a lot of attention to ranking and most importantly the centre of the group.

                                  

The competition show definitely stole the hearts of the fans and viewers on TV to vote for their favourite trainees. So as the song lyrics go- It's Me 나야 나 (Pick Me), you watch them perform- sing, dance and goof around, you ponder then you cast your vote and voila! they become your idol rookie group. 

Girl groups I.O.I was created and this year it was frenzy with boy group Wanna One taking over by storm. This year the theme song is sung and known by almost every kid and adult in the country. Park Ji Hoon's popular trademark 'I've Saved you in my heart' is even mimicked by politicians and hosts. Kang Daniel is most scouted for modelling magazines, adverts and programs. Several sub units were formed after the competition to ensure the survival of other contestants who failed to get into the final round. 

                                    

Seeing the success for the survival competitions, KBS has released The Unit program or better known as Idol Reboot Project which scouts singers who failed to debut or become successful. Singer Rain (Jung Ji Hoon) will be hosting The Unit. 

JTBC's Mix Nine program has similar concept under collaboration with YG Entertainment's CEO Yang to scout for 400 over contestants. Superstar K program was the first one to kick off scouting most interesting talents in the country in year 2010. 

SBS quickly did K-Pop Star with six runs until recent April to find the young talents. Rather than looking at readily produced pop groups by agencies, now the public can freely vote and choose the contestants they like; to form a new group. Though judges comment and critics were taken into account in old survival programs, this era the citizens are the ones determining the overall winner.

The contestants have to work and perform harder in the reality programs to ensure they gained the favour of the public voters. The vocal trainers, producers, judges and critics are there to ensure the contestants perform well- but after all the public and fans will be making the final decision for the audition program. 

And will I be watching further on Mix Nine or Idol Reboot Project? It's a possibility I want to see Rain hosting the program. When I looked back at the under rated trainees from Produce 101: S2, I feel there is always another door opened for them in the entertainment biz.
