MBC's Night Watchman Journal drama begins

야경꾼일지 (Ya Gyeong Ggun Il Ji) literally means a Night Watchman's Journal in Korea. It's MBC's network latest Sageuk drama featuring main leads such as Jung Il Woo, Jung Yoon Ho, Go Sung Hee, Yoon Tae Young and Seo Yi Ji. Its veteran casts include Kim Sung Oh as the villain Sadam, Kim Heung Soo as the King, Lee Jae Yong as the PM Park Soo Jung and Seo Yi Sook as the Queen Dowager.

The story unfolds of Prince Lee Rin (Jung Il Woo) who leads a lonely and sad life when he was child. After witnessing his parents' death in the palace, his other half brother Prince Kisan inherits the throne with the help of Prime Minister Park Soo Jung. Rin spends all his life in luxurious homes and clothes but he was never happy. He has been haunted by the trauma seeing the last bits of his father being sick and turning mad while weilding his sword towards him and his late mother. His grandmother the Queen Dowager sends him out of the palace for his own safety.

Meanwhile Do Ha comes from Mago Tribe and her sister has been kidnapped by the villain Sadam who intends to destroy the Kingdom by bringing in the Monster Serpent. He brainwashes Do Ha's sister and sends her to seduce the King. That is when Rin witnessed how his father turned violent and mad. The King's faithful guard, Jo Sang Heon is a night watchman who believes in ghosts and helps to spun off evil spirits. He was injured badly and nearly died in an attack. Years later, Lee Rin meets Do Ha and Sang Heon again in a small inn. Rin could actually see ghosts and spirits but nobody believes him. He is always been accompanied by his Eunuchs and a little girl. The King doesn't trust anyone in the palace so he sends his Royal guard, Moo Seok (Jung Yoon Ho) to spy on Lee Rin.

The PM's daughter Soo Ryun is always in love with Lee Rin but he never reciprocates her love. He is often wandering around and seeks the truth about his father's death.
With Sadam brainwashing the King, Rin and Sang Heon has to do something to prevent more disasters from hitting their kingdom.

One good point to see about this drama is Jung Il Woo who is famous for being a playboy and cheeky look. He's never been serious in his dramas. The recent dramas he has played was Moon Embracing the Sun along with Han Ga In & Kim Soo Hyun. Then his modern drama Golden Rainbow with UEE and Jo Min Ki was a hit too.

It's a pleasure seeing TVXQ's leader U-Know Yunho playing for the first time in a Sageuk
drama as the warrior. However one disappointment for this drama was the character
Do Ha who is plainly a vase, good for nothing except to find her long lost sister even when she has no fighting skills and yet she dare to climb her a** into Sadam's lair!

Fool of a took as she has nothing else to do but to prowl around the Inn and cries like a baby in front of Lee Rin. Do Ha's character is super dull & nothing interests me to see her at all. As for Lady Soo Ryun who is the PM's daughter, she plays a better role even though all she did was expecting love from Lee Rin and jealousy arose when she sees Do Ha.
She has lost her mind too when she sold the rights for supplying medicine in the city to Maeranbang thinking it'd help the Prince. So one word- the women in this drama are a failure! Seriously I don't know what they do except to cry and whinge... lousy characters.

I am still keeping my tabs and clinging for climax when Lee Rin & Moo Seok learn the skills to be Night Watchman to guard innocent citizens. Keeping fingers crossed!
