Lee Jun Ki and IU in global drama 'Scarlet Heart'/Moon Lovers,

Actor Lee Jun Ki (34) and singer IU (23) will be starring in the Korean remake version of Scarlet Heart 보보경심 with the new name Moon Lovers. Scarlet Heart or rather known as 'Bu Bu Jing Xin' is very popular Taiwan-China-H.Kong drama in 2011 starring the Nicky Wu, Liu Shi Shi, Kevin Cheng,Lin Gengxin and Annie Liu. It is based on a Tonghua novel.

I find the drama rather intriguing and personally the 8th Prince (Kevin Cheng) and 14th Prince (Lin Gengxin) were my favorites. (*_*)

The Chinese Scarlet Heart original casts

This round it will be a pre-production drama of Korea where Hollywood's studios NBC Universal will be investing in it. PD Kim Gyu Tae who has directed drama That Winter That Blows and It's Okay To Love will be heading the drama. Being a fantasy romantic drama, it will be based on actual history of the modern imagination.

Lee Jun Ki will be playing the role of 'Wang So'- the 4th Prince of King Taejo with the nickname Wolf Dog. Wang So will be someone who is cold behind the mask but eventually becomes the successor. IU will be playing as 'Hae Su' from the 21st century whereby she will be ported into the Goryeo dynasty. The writers have promised to deliver a colourful charm with the friendship blossoming to love while choosing their own destiny for Wang So and Hae Su. 

The rest of the princes casting are still in discussion. For the Chinese version, there are the 4th Prince, 8th Prince, 9th Prince, 10th Prince, 13th and 14th Prince during the Emperor Kangxi ruling. Rumors stating they are offering roles to Ji Soo (Sassy Go go), Hong Jong Hyun (Mama), Kang Ha Neul (Misaeng) and Nam Joo Hyuk (School 2015) and EXO's Baekhyun. 

This will be another sageuk drama for Lee Jun Ki which I pray that it won't be a flop compared to his recent Scholar Who Walks the Night. Even though he worked hard but the ratings were considered low. It will be the first time for IU to play in a costume drama. The age gap of 9 years might be a huge between the two actors but let's hope she plays the role well as 'Ru Xi' in the drama. As for the princes, I am a bit skeptical about the newbies playing the roles as the other royal Princes. 

Since this story has always been fitted for the Chinese dynasty era, somehow to fit into Korean version would be quite alarming. As for fans of Scarlet Heart, we always know 4th Prince aggressive and cold character fits well for Nicky Wu and to have Lee Jun Ki playing the role even though he's always in sageuk dramas. Don't get me wrong, I always admire how hard Lee works in his roles but let's hope the writers do a good job in the story line.
