"The Unit program is about the dreams of youth. It is difficult to keep up the passion without giving up the dream, but we will make a broadcast that will help us achieve that dream."
CP Han Kyung Chan has announced at the production presentation "The Unit" of KBS 2TV Idol Rebooting project which was held at Times Square Mall at Yeongdeungpo,Seoul on the 25th October 2017.
On the 29th September, the production crew have conducted three days of public recording and selected 126 people to complete the first batch. Throughout the various missions, viewers of the public will select nine male and nine female singers to serve as The Unit. The debut of the two co-ed teams will be decided at the final stage of the competition.
(FYI- it's quite similar to Produce 101 except it is now a mix of female & male contestants)
JTBC's audition program of 'Mix Nine' will be broad cast at 4:50 pm on the 29th October and 'The Unit' will show its first episode at 9:15 pm on the 28th October 2017.
One CP has emphasised the differentiation from other broadcasting audition programs.
"Even though audition programs like" Mix Nine "have been around in the same time period, the first thing to do was to organise the date of the program, which is not aimed at demonetisation, but to help those who are trying to make a dream. There is a wide audience out there, and there is a difference in that it accommodates the needs of the public. "
One CP also commented on the contracts related to the launch of the idol group, "There were minor players in the cast, and they were very careful during selection. We have guaranteed sleeping rights and learning rights." Minors contestants were also limited during the filming in Chuseok holidays last year. "
PD Park Ji-young also expressed the authenticity of the program.
"I know that there are a lot of audition programs and KBS also does it. I think it is an adventure for myself. I tried to capture the growth and the sympathy of the young and old inspiring idols, rather than just going through votes and evaluation. "
The mentors who will challenge the participants are composed current singers. Singers Rain, Hwang Chi Yeol, HyunA, SHINee's Taemin, Urban Zakapa's Jo Hyun Ah, rapper San-E will become advisers to the new idols who are dreaming of of their recovery path.
Rain was not able to attend the production presentation because of the news of his wife Kim Tae Hee delivering a baby girl. PD Park, said, " I have a child too and I would like to congratulate him for becoming a father."
HyunA has commented that Hwang is like a mentor in terms of vocal training to her.
In fact Hwang was a vocal trainer for many idol groups. With his ascent and friendliness, he would be able to listen to the inspiring contestants.
Taemin wanted to provide advice based on his years of experience and to also to convey his know-how about the angle on the stage and on screen.
'The Unit' will be aired at 9:15 pm on the 28th October 2017.
