If you do happen to see the trailer of this movie or snippets of it, you'd know that the King Yeonsan is treacherous and a very tyrant ruler.
Kim Kang Woo plays as Prince Yeonsan (Yeonsan-gun) in this film whereby he forcibly took 10,000 beauties for his own entertainment instead of spending it wisely on the palace matters. His loyal court ministers tried hard to restrain him and there is another woman who is after him for full revenge. In real history King Yeonsan is been portrayed many times by various actors such as Jung Jin Young in the film 'The King and the Clown' who hides under the skirt of the notorious concubine Jang Nok Su while he starts to have affection for the feminine jester Gong Gil (played by Lee Jun Ki) in the palace. In fact Yeonsan is one of the worst rulers in Joseon dynasty where he used the famous Sungkyungkwan as a pleasure ground for women and horses.
Even Yeonsan's biological mother Lady Yoon who became King Seongjong's favorite consort and queen was not a pleasant woman. She was filled with jealousy with other concubines and became rivals. When she indirectly hurt the King, the Queen Dowager Insoo deposed her into exile with poison to death.
Thus the film is about power struggle and intervention of his court ministers. Because the life times of Yeonsan was never portrayed in any dramas, this film is bound to capture the audience's attention. The movie also co-starts Jo Ji Hoon, Lim Ji Yeon, Chun Ho Jin and Lee Yo Young.
