The upcoming MBC sageuk drama- 밤을 걷는 선비 (Scholar Who Walks the Night) and adaption from the manga-cartoon is receiving lots of love and attention from viewers. Online netizens gone frenzy over the preview as it will be taking over the slot from the previous drama Warm and Cozy. Lead actors Lee Jun Ki has been busy preparing for this role and he has uploaded a wide range of photos on Instagram and Twitter for this series. Somehow I find Lee Jun Ki is always suitable to portray in sageuk dramas. It suits his face line and it's rather subtle for his look. This is not the first time he has done costume period dramas as he's succeeded it well in Iljimae, Arang and the Magistrate and Joseon Gunman.
Scholar Who Walks the Night also features actress Lee Yu Bi (Pinnochio and Innocent Man)- in real life she is the daughter to the beautiful veteran actress Gyeon Mi Ri (she has recently acted in What's With the Family? as Son Dambi's mother). I won't mention that Lee Yubi is that fantastic in acting but sometimes she has overdone in her lines. I have doubts if she can pull it off well enough to have the love line chemistry with Jun Ki. Sighs...
Supporting roles include DBSK's Max Changmin as the Crown Prince Lee Yeon, Kim So Eun as double role- Hye Ryung and Lee Myung Hee. While the ghastly pale looking Lee So Hyuk plays the evil vampire Gwi who basically lives in the royal palace to prevent the Crown Prince from inheriting the throne. This fella definitely looks evil and disgusting (from my first impression with the make up he has)- the eastern version of Bram Stoker's dracula. LOL!
Veteran actor Lee Sun Jae plays again as King Seonjo and actress Jang Hee Jin is also casted as Su Hyang.
Based from the manhwa, Kim Sung Yeol played by Jun Ki is a living vampire among the ordinary people. He finds is hard to adapt to the change and suffers from trauma after his first love Myunghee dies. He then meets again the lookalike Hye Ryung in the present as a noble woman. Sung Yeol then stumbles across a cross-dressed worker- Yang Sun played by Yubi who lost her noble status after her father was framed. Lee Hyun Woo makes a cameo apperance in this drama as another Crown Prince which makes it more interesting...
