Re-run of SBS drama Beautiful Days 아름다운 날

Beautiful Days- 아름다운 날 was quite a hit and popular romantic SBS drama broadcast in 2001. Starring all the big A-list stars Lee Byung Hun, Choi Ji Woo, Ryu Shi Won, Shin Min Ah and Lee Jung Hyun. Veteran actors Lee Jung Gil, Lee Kyung Jin and Lee Hwi Hyang played important roles in it too.

This drama has somehow caught my attention with leads Lee Byung Hun as he plays the Victory Records CEO's son Lee Min Chul who is smart and serious. Min Chul has this icy cold image but deep down he is rather lonely. And the reason for his mean character is due to his childhood. His father brought in a stepmother and half-brother Sun Jae played by Ryu Shi Won. In front of everyone, Min Chul is very strict in work. At home he is a super doting and caring brother towards his own spoiled brat sister Min Ji played by Shin Min Ah.

During childhood days, Sun Jae was brought to the orphanage to visit kids. There he met 2 orphan girls Yeon Soo (Choi Ji Woo) and Sena (Lee Jung Hyun). As they grew up Yeon Soo promises to meet Sena in Seoul but due to an unforeseen incident Yeon Soo didn't turn up resulting Sena having a grudge on her for a long time. Yeon Soo works in Victory Records with her best friend Na Rae to pay bills. She thinks Min Chul is the little boy who visited them at the orphanage. Yeon Soo strikes a deal with Min Chul in order to tutor Min Ji in art drawing, he has to groom up Sena to become a singer. Sena has very little ability to become a celebrity thinks she is doing well. She has a crush on the naive and innocent Sun Jae who is a medical student.

Sun Jae is very talented in music but he is forbidden to tap into the music industry so that
Min Chul can be the sole heir to the company. However he disguised himself as 'Zero' online composing beautiful songs. Both brothers are drawn towards Yeon Soo but she is in love with Min Chul. Na Rae warns her the danger of pursuing that relationship knowing his father will be strongly against it.

Later Sun Jae discovers the mystery of his birth and grew up watching the resentment from both Min Ji and Min Chul. He soon leaves the house when he finds out CEO Lee was the one who killed his real father. When everything seems to go well for the sweet couple, Yeon Soo discovers she is suffering from chronic leukemia. She breaks up with Min Chul and his whole world came crumbling down after finding the truth from Na Rae. Sena felt guilty for being mean towards Yeon Soo all this time when she sacrificed so much to help her career.

And what attracts the audience is the beautiful soundtrack sung by Zero, some songs were also contributed by Ryu Shi Won, Lee Jung Hyun and Lee Byung Hun.

And oh what can we say...Lee Byung Hun has nailed his role very well.  At times Min Chul's role doesn't speak much but his expression and gaze just speaks for all. He is a lonely and cold person but Yeon Soo teaches him to open up. And who wouldn't fall for that charismatic leader in the company? Whenever he loses his temper at Yeon Soo, somehow he softens and comes back to her.

Anyway this drama hasn't failed me after watching since I was in college years until now.
As many would think twice after all Lee was involved in some scandals, but it doesn't deter me from watching his dramas because that's their personal life.
