On the long weekend due to Queen’s birthday, I had a good
rest at home and ended up watching an old movie which was probably filmed in
early 2013 or so.
Speedy Scandal (과속스캔들) is the title of the film and it’s quite a hilarious
Korean movie I’ve seen so far this year. Starring Cha Tae Hyun (I’d nicknamed him as
King of comedies since he’s famous for acting in comedy films after his
successful hit movie My Sassy Girl with Jeon Ji Hyun in 2001).
He plays the
ditzy and famous radio deejay Nam Hyun Soo who hosts the Afternoon Program
whereby he listens and solves caller’s problems and dilemmas.
Reporters are finding hard to get any scandal out from him
as he has been rather low profile and secretive. One day unexpectedly a young girl,
Hwang Jae In (played by Park Bo Young)
and her little son, Gi Dong (played by Wang
Seok Hyun) arrived at Hyun Soo’s doorstep. She is the single mother and
caller- her story has gone on live so well that ratings shot up. Hyun Soo was
utterly shocked when she claims that she is his daughter and Gi Dong is his
grandson! Jae In’s mother was Hyun Soo’s first and final love during his young
days. His life turned madness while they stayed with him threatening to expose
his love life to the public, it could ruin his big career. Jae In joined the
competition hosted by Hyun Soo’s program. At first, he looked down on her but
soon discovered she is talented, and so is Gi Dong who excelled in piano. Hyun
Soo starts to fall for Gi Dong’s pretty kindergarten teacher so he finds all
ways to get her attention.
Jae In’s boyfriend came to find her and thought Hyun Soo is
her new boyfriend. He started making a fuss over their co-staying together
making Hyun Soo angry wondering if she was here to torment his carefree life. The
final part was rather touching when Gi Dong suddenly disappeared and Jae In cried
and begged hard on stage asking Hyun Soo to find her son back. It was a live
broadcast program and Hyun Soo was startled but he started to show concern for
his family. The hilarious scene was when Jae In’s boyfriend came to the police
station demanding Hyun Soo’s relation with her but to discover Gi Dong is his
real son. Hyun Soo beat the crap out of him that he ruined his daughter’s life
in front of the kindergarten teacher! Hahah!
I must say Park Bo Young is quite a talented singer…she
could sing so well. The songs in the movie itself brought so much laughter and
tears to everyone. Especially the song sung by Jae In called ‘Gift’ was
touching since Hyun Soo arranged a band and full on gospel choir to back her
up. Even Hyun Soo’s solo song- Because I Love You was a beautiful piece played
on guitar and sung by Cha Tae Hyun (he used to be a singer!)
The ending was a happy one… the trio stayed together and
Hyun Soo even filmed a family CF on TV. He was proud of it while Jae In thinks it’s
superficial since he doesn’t like children. Gi Dong gave thumbs up to him. Hyun
Soo managed to date the kindergarten teacher despite he is already a young ‘grandpa’.
LOL!
